Tuesday, January 24, 2012: The MumbaiWire.in Guide to Fine Dining & Nightlife in Mumbai and Goa promises to be the Bible for gourmet lovers in India, particularly in Mumbai and Goa, not to forget the thousands of tourists who throng the beaches of Goa each year.

A hard-bound coffee-table book of approximately 300 pages, it will incorporate a special section on Indian-made Wines and Fine Waters which can be considered the sommeliers guide to Indian Wines and Fine Water. The hardbound edition of the book will be priced at Rs 1000 and will be a special collector’s edition. Though the book will be ready by the end of February 2012, it is expected to be available in exclusive book stores all over India only after the second week of March. An abridged cheaper paperback version more handy and more like a pocket guide will also be published alongside the main edition. The paperback edition will be priced at Rs 600. The paperback edition will incorporate a listing of the economy joints – a feature that would not be part of the hard-bound coffee-table book.

The book will feature some of the best dining and eating out fine restaurants, night clubs, bars, restobars, lounges, discotheques and pubs in Western India. Says senior journalist Flynn Remedios and editor of the MumbaiWire.in Guide to Fine Dining & Nightlife in Mumbai and Goa, “This book will profile the names and people behind some of the best brands like Titos, Mambos, Charlstons, Brittos, Pop Tates, Café Chocolatti, J&A’s Little Italy, Souza Lobo, La Franza, Goa Portuguesa, Indigo, Vie Lounge & Deck, Aurus, etc to name a few. It will also have a special section on Fine Waters from India like Aava and Mulshi Springs which are some of the best fine waters not just in India, but in the World in their individual categories. Indian Wines and the faces behind the success stories of Indian-made wines will also be profiled.”

What to expect, what to order and the approximate budgets for a meal for two as well as a rating will be part of each entry, explained Flynn Remedios, adding that, “We are trying to avoid the rating system because these days it is very difficult to categorize a place as a fine dining restaurant or a nightspot. Some places have a very distinct identity, but many places today include entertainment – a DJ, dance shows, special shows, etc and that makes it more like food and entertainment rather than just plain and simple fine dining.”

Il-Legal structures demolished at Mira Road

The Mira Road-Bhyandar Municipal Corporation undertook a large scale demolition of illegal shops and other structures in the Mira Road area today. Shops that had illegally extended their premises in the Shanti Nagar, Sector 1 area were among those demolished. While only the illegal portions were demolished, goods and products stored in the shops were damaged, said shop owners. The MBMC had arranged for a huge police bandobast in the area. A huge crowd gathered near Mira Road station road while the demolition was in progress, blocking traffic for a good one hour.

Umair Zafar launches High Street Fashion targeted at youth

Mumbai-based, fashion designer and stylist Umair Zafar is launching a summer collection called “High Street Fashion” all across Mumbai. Says Umair Zafar, “The collection is mainly to target the youth of Mumbai, and is styled and designed for them. The price range is affordable and starts from Rs 1800. The maximum range could go up to Rs 4000. The collection will be sold through multi-brand stores and is for males and females in the age group of 20-35 years. ”

Giving details of the collection, Umair Says, “The western collection is made of pure lenin, cotton lenin, cotton stain, etc and the color palettes are vibrant yet cool. The tailoring and quality control standards are very high with the latest cuts and styles which suit Indian body types. The outfits have minimal thread embroidery and are very wearable, even in the humid and warm weather of cities like Mumbai and Delhi.

Umair recently shot for a preview look with Miss India finalist Ruhi Singh to showcase his collection. He also plans a fashion show to promote the range in the coming two weeks.

No panty girl Yana Gupta says she prefers not to wear underwear?

No panty girl Yana Gupta who became the most searched image on the internet last year after her panty less peep show pics were flashed in some magazines says she prefers not to wear panties. “Only this time, I am very careful about how I sit and make sure there are no photographers around,” she girns sheepishly. “If you have a long day with a lot of meetings and the weather is warm, it is very comfortable not to wear panties. I am not saying that I never wear underwear, but sometimes, I prefer or wish I didn’t have to wear any. However, after the fiasco with a photographer, I am very careful and make sure that I do not uncross my legs,” she added.

It may be recalled that a UK-based men’s magazine had offered Yana Gupta Rs One Crore to pose in the buff. “I don’t believe that was true,” she grins. “That was probably some imaginative journalist at work. I don’t think anyone would pay me One crore to pose nude.” Does anyone want to take Yana Gupta’s challenge, we ask?

Veer Shivaji wins the prestigious “Jijao Puraskar”

Mumbai, January 17, 2012: In under a span of 5 months, COLORS’ first historical epic show Veer Shivaji on popular demand was felicitated with the “Jijao Puraskar” an Award function organized by the “Maharashtra Seva Sang” on the birthday of Jijabai.

An award function that is attended by over four lakh people, this esteemed award was given to COLORS’ Veer Shivaji for bringing back to life the story of the Maratha warrior for the new generation. Besides narrating uncharted incidents from his life, the show highlights the relationship between mother and son that became an integral part of Shivaji’s fight for Swarajya. It was his mother Jijabai who was the driving force that inspired him and it she who was instrumental in cultivating the spirit of bravery and Swarajya in him. The show is now following the track of how Shivaji tasted his first bout of success by conquering his very first fort, Fort Torna and the entry of well known television actor Chetan Hansraj as Inaayat Khan, the killedar at Fort Torna and Shiva’s new enemy.

Mumbai-based, well-known fashion designer Umair Zafar has designed TV star Deepshika’s wedding trousseau including a special engagement gown designed in a Christian style. Deepshika will marry Keshav Arora on 19^th January 2012 at a plush wedding ceremony. The engagement and other traditional ceremonies will be on 18^th January as first reported by Futuristic Media Network two months ago. We didn’t want to disturb Deepshika who was very busy with her last minute wedding arrangements, but Keshav Arora said Deepshika looks beautiful in anything that she wears. However Keshav admitted that he is waiting to see his bride-to-be in her bridal finery. Here’s wishing our ‘good friends’ Deepshika and Keshav many many years of marital bliss.

Umair Zafar refused to speak to us about Deepshika’s trousseau citing that it was his client’s special day and he will not give away any details. He directed us to Deepshika saying, “Please talk to her. I cannot give any details to the press about my client’s plans.”

However a little birdie told us, “With a strong background of craftsmanship, Umair has designed a Christian wedding gown for Deepshika’s wedding ceremony. The gown is made of creamish-coloured gold bridal satin with a self velvet floral design on the neckline with highlighted Swaroski work all over. The gown is layers with very subtle shimmery net to give a bridal look and has a tail like that in the regal era.” We even have a photograph of Deepshika’s gown, but we will not release it as we do not want to spoil the surprise element for one of our favourite Tv stars.

Some of his clientele include Shahbaaz Khan, Vivian Dsena, Vishal Gandhi, Padmini Kolhapuri, Geeta Basra, Aditi Sharma, Nisha Kothari, Sayali Bhagat, Deepshikha Nagpal, Yukta Mookhey, Rituparna Sen Gupta to name a few. There are many others, but celebs are very secretive about the source of their clothing and at least another ten of Umair’s clients requested us not to mention names. But they all said they loved Umair’s clothing.

One of Umair’s celebrity clientele who didn’t want to be quotes officially said, “Actors prefer their personal clothing from Umair Zafar as they feel he is well conversant and has a good technical understanding of fashion, styles and trends, fabric and handiwork.

Mamta Sharma (of Munni Badmaan Hui fame) is the latest to join the list of Umair’s clientele and get her outfits designed by the ace fashion designer.

IAAF protests against ‘Sunny Leone videos’ promoted by Mobile Companies

The Indian Artistes and Actors Forum (IAAF) have strongly protested against the SMS and flash message promotion of adult porn star Sunny Leone’s videos by certain mobile companies. In a letter addressed to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, the Ministry of Company Affairs and the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, IAAF spokesperson Flynn Remedios has stated that certain mobile operators in India are indirectly promoting a porn actress Sunny Leone – a participant on the recently concluded reality show Bigg Boss Season 5 on TV channel Colors by promoting her videos.

“While it is not sure if the video content promoted directly includes porn or adult videos, we strongly object to this SMS and flash message campaign unleashed by certain mobile phone operators in India. The content servers are not located in India and the links on these WAP and mobile internet websites can also point to Sunny Leone’s other adult web content including her personal website which is a pay and use hard core porn site offering videos and other photographic content,” said Flynn Remedios of the IAAF adding that Sunny Leone is a porn star and promoting Sunny Leone indirectly accounts to promoting pornography which is explicitly forbidden by Indian laws.

This comes in the wake of the recent approval of the central government to prosecute and summon international social networking websites like Facebook, Orkut and search giant Google for promoting objectionable content which offends the religious sentiments of certain sections of society.

Hospitality industry veterans applaud Michael Mascha’s Fine Water Seminar in Mumbai

The hospitality industry in Mumbai turned up in full strength on Saturday at the Oyster Room at Sahara Star to listen to international fine water expert and author Michael Mascha’s seminar on Gourmet and Organic Waters. Mascha who has toured the world and boasts of a collection of over 1000 fine waters is an author, water sommelier and an expert on water bars. He has helped set up water bars in some of the most exquisite and exclusive restaurants in the world spread over the seven continents.

Mumbai was privileged to hear him speak at a seminar organized by Naveen Luthra CEO of Mulshi Springs – India’s only 100 per cent pesticide free natural spring water which is the only Asian water to be exported to France and the European Union. Other speakers at the seminar included organic foods evangelist Kavita Mukhi who spoke about the benefits of natural, organic water, Mushtaq Rauf of Mulshi Springs and mixologist Shatbi Basu who conducted a practical session on water and whiskey mixing for the guests.

Present at the seminar were Arindam Chakravarti, Divisional Head – F&B of Reliance Big Cinemas, K K Bhan, Asst GM of Oriental Bank of Commerce, Anuj Prakash, Vice President – The Resort, Rajiv Kaul, President – The Leela Group of Hotels, Sajay Goyal, GM – Speciality Group, Zafar Siamwala, COO – Oberoi Group, Actor Deepak Parashar who spoke about his own experience with Mulshi Springs which cured him of his health problems, veteran actress Poonam Dasgupta, Raj Saraf, Managing Director of Zenith Computers and of course Michael Mascha and his beautiful wife Erika along with media persons and other members of the hotel trade business.
